NYSSCA Career Achievement Award
The NYSSCA Career Achievement Award recognizes an elementary, middle/junior high, secondary, or multilevel (P-12) school counselor, director/supervisor of school counseling, or counselor educator for outstanding service, achievement, and dedication to the counseling profession. Nominations can be made by the nominee or a colleague of the nominee. The award will be presented at the NYSSCA Annual Conference.

The on-line application includes a rationale for the nomination, letter(s) of recommendation and additional supporting documents.

To be eligible, the nominee must:
(1) be a current member of NYSSCA;
(2) be currently employed or a recent retiree as a full-time school counselor, director/supervisor of counseling, or counselor educator;
(3) have completed a minimum of 20 years of counseling service (may be a combination of elementary, middle/junior high, secondary, multilevel (P-12) school counselor, director/supervisor of counseling, or counselor educator);
(4) hold a minimum of a master’s degree or equivalent in school counseling, and;
(5) be certified as a counselor in New York State.

Recognition Criteria include activities and accomplishments that have taken place over the span of the nominee’s career including:
(1) The nominee maintains the highest standards of professional conduct and recognizes that his or her personal conduct is held up to public scrutiny. The nominee strives to be a model citizen of the local, school and broader professional communities. The nominee maintains strong ethical standards in his or her personal and professional conduct.
(2) The nominee demonstrates awareness and knowledge of the New York State Comprehensive Model and has been responsible for school counseling innovations or development of programs aligning with the New York State Comprehensive Model to support the career, personal/social and academic development of all students.
(3) The nominee demonstrates leadership, advocacy and collaboration in his/her work promoting equity and access to rigorous educational opportunities for all students to maximize student achievement.
(4) The nominee demonstrates strong collaboration with stakeholders.

NYSSCA Outstanding Program, Practice, or Project Award
The NYSSCA Outstanding Program, Practice or Project Award recognizes the best professional practice in the field which is developmental and sequential in nature as conducted during the previous school year. Nominations should reflect cutting edge theory or practice in the field and offer evidence of impact on students or the professional community. Nominations can be made by the nominee or a colleague of the nominee. The award will be presented at the NYSSCA Annual Conference.

The on-line application includes a rationale for the nomination, description of nominated program, practice or project, and supporting documents.

Submission criteria include:
(1) The nominator must be a current member of NYSSCA;
(2) Using information specific to the previous school year, submit a three to five page narrative describing the program, practice or project using the recognition criteria listed below as a guide;
(3) Submit evidence or examples of the program’s support and success, such as brochures, letters or recommendation, media coverage, etc.
(4) Include program data and its relevance to the district’s comprehensive school counseling program.

Recognition Criteria include activities and accomplishments that have taken place over the span of the nominee’s career including:
(1) the program, practice or project must demonstrate leadership in the promotion of comprehensive school counseling development
(2) the program, practice or project involves all students and is integrated into the school curriculum or climate;
(3) the program, practice or project is delivered or coordinated by a certified school counselor(s);
(4) the program, practice or project includes academic, social/emotional and/or college/career domains as described in the New York State Comprehensive Program;

NYSSCA Administrator of the Year Award
The NYSSCA Administrator of the Year Award recognizes a department, building or district leader who has provided outstanding support to the school counseling profession. Nominations can be made by the nominee or a colleague of the nominee.

The on-line application includes a rationale for the nomination, letter(s) of recommendation and additional supporting documents.

To be eligible:
(1) the nominator must be a current member of NYSSCA;
(2) the nominee must be currently employed as a full-time administrator or recently retired;

Recognition Criteria include:
(1) The nominee demonstrates awareness and knowledge of the New York State Comprehensive Model;
(2) The nominee has been responsible for school counseling program innovations or development of the district comprehensive school counseling program aligning with the New York State Comprehensive Model.
(3) The nominee demonstrates outstanding qualities of leadership, advocacy and collaboration in his/her work promoting equity and access to rigorous educational opportunities for all students to maximize student achievement.
(4) The nominee demonstrates strong professional and civic activities.
